Activities and Programs

WOMEN COLLEGE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ( WCIT )
Imparts free education relating to Computer Sciences Typing, Shorthand and Office Communication to deserving women to enable them to work in offices to earn their livelihood.
 
THE LIGHT
Centre for Rehabilitation for Mentally Handicapped Children,170 Muradia Road, Model Town, Sialkot. The women face strong hardship and agony after the birth of Mentally retarded Children. In order to help them in this situation and to relieve them from this anguish situation, we have established an Institution in the name of the LIGHT for the Rehabilitation for Mentally Handicapped Children. About 70 children (Male and Female) have been admitted and 12 Teachers, best qualified for this purpose have been recruited. This Institution renders 24 hours service. No Fee is charged from the parents.
 
FREE LEGAL AID CENTER
We provide legal aid to women, through legal awareness, education, counseling and providing legal assistance and advice to women involved in family disputes, women in prisons, children in prisons, bonded labor and victims of human rights violation and denial.

INFORMATION DISSEMINATION PRESS UNIT
We are preparing the following publications:
1. Women & Law
2. Muslim Family Laws

RESEARCH REPORTS
WOW has over 3 years of experience in archival and empirical research, using both conventional as well as innovative methodologies. It has pioneered research in the areas of women in the informal sector, women and sustainable development, the interface of culture, religion and law, and women in political process.
All of WOW''s research is action-oriented, feeding into its advocacy and lobbying, its capacity building, training, and networking activities.
 
FUTURE PLANS - WOW SHELTER
WOW intends to have a shelter for poor women ousted by their husbands or their families, during the litigation period.

Ethnographic study of women’s mental health in Pakistan
WOW conducted Women’s Mental Health Study with the collaboration of a team consisting of Kath Oswald, Jennifer Disley and Naseem Akhtar from Rochdale Health Care  NHS Trust, Birch Hill Hospital, Rochdale OL-12  9QB, UK, in April-May 2001. The WOW and Rochdal Team conducted survey and met the relevant persons of various important Institutions like:
