Women's Court
History and Background

Who are we?

The Women''s Court: The Permanent Arab Court To Resist Violence Against Women is a symbolic popular court that aims at fighting all forms of violence practiced against women in Arab societies.
The Court was established by a group of Arab NGOs and distinguished personalities gathered in Rabat , Morocco on 30th November and 1st December 1996. The main purpose of the Court is to put an end to the intensifying and multifaceted violence against women. This need has become obviously clear by a public hearing on violence against women that was held in Beirut in June 1995, and was the first of its kind in the Arab world.
Located in the country of residence of the general coordinator, the Court''s Headquarters is now in Lebanon. The membership is open to all who agree with its objectives and support the cause

Our Objectives

Because violence against women is, unfortunately, a historical phenomenon that cannot be over looked and has intensified in the Arab countries…
Because violence against women, in all of its forms and manifestations, is a systematic pattern attributed mainly to the prevailing culture and inherited customs, in addition to the juridical, educational and other social structures…

Our work aims:

To transfer the issue of violence against women from being a personal issue into a public concern.
To raise and evaluate awareness on the phenomenon of violence, its causes and different manifestations.
To exert pressure on Arab governments and NGOs in order to take measures to protect and support women victims of violence.
To offer direct help and support to women subjected to any form of violence.
