The Sudan National Discourse Forum (SNDF) is an NGO which was established in 2003 as one the other ten NDFs that constitute the Nile Basin Discourse (NBD).   The SNDF has been registered at the Humanitarian Aid Commission in February 2007.  The NBD aims at: "promoting sustainable and equitable development, poverty reduction and cooperation between all stakeholders in the Nile Basin".  The SNDF endeavors to establish suitable mechanisms that would ensure active participation of the Nile communities through the establishment of Local Discourse Forums along the Nile and its tributaries.

Objectives: 
The overall objective of the SNDF is attaining sustainable development and reducing poverty.  The specific objectives include the following:
¢        To work towards engaging the Nile Basin Initiative and supporting its activities.
¢        To increase public awareness and avail information to the local communities.
¢        To establish horizontal and vertical links for the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) at the national and regional levels with all the stakeholders especially the NBI.
¢        Working with others to reduce resource based conflicts over the resources of the Nile and propagating peaceful coexistence for sustainable development.
¢        To monitor and evaluate the development activities in the Nile Basin to assure that they are community driven.

Means:
¢        Using the media outlets to collect and disseminate knowledge and data that pertains to the resources of the Nile and their sustainable management.
¢        To build the capacities of the members of the SNDF, the CSOs and the relevant governmental institutions.
¢        Fund raising to achieve the SNDF goal.
¢        Facilitating the establishment of Local Discourse Forums that work at the community level in collaboration with the SNDF.
¢        Promoting dialogue between the relevant CSOs.
