The Information Center on Sustainable Energy and Environment (CIEDE)
History and Background

Historical Background:

The Information Center on Sustainable Energy and Environment (CIEDE) was created in February 2000. The creation of CIEDE was the fruit of a successful partnership between the Center for Renewable Energy Development (CDER), the Department of Environment, the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the United Nations Program for Development /Global Environment Facility (UNDP/GEF) as well as other Departments represented within the National Committee on Climate Change (CNCC).

At the conclusion of its launching phase, the CIEDE built the first stakes which enabled him to justify its existence and its role on information sensitizing on energy, sustainable development and environment. This role had currently a presentiment of the various partners of the centre as a latent need that the CIEDE should seek to satisfy, to reinforce and widen to be able to gradually cover all the aspects related to the environment. The success of this mission requires ensuring sufficient means for the centre and a flexible and operational structure able to function in network with the whole of the operators implied in these fields.

Indeed, and considering the complex nature of the information which rides generally between the scientist, politics and the strategic, the CIEDE imperatively seeks to develop solid relations of partnership with all operators, at the national and international, concerned by the sustainable energy and climate change in order to reach quickly the information and restore it in the most suited and adapted form to needs and expectations of the users then to revitalize and to tie up links of cooperation in these fields with the national and international institutional partners and the civil society.

The CIEDE has a rich experience with regards the management of project through the UNDP project ‘RAB/94/G31'' on climate change Capacity Building at the regional level (Morocco, Algérie, Tunisia) where CIEDE were created on the level of the three countries and which are called to collaborate and exchange in network.

The CIEDE also benefits, of a support of the National Committee of Climate change ( CNCC) and the National Scientist et Technical Committee on Climate change ( CNST-CC) which include several departments, public and private establishments and civil society.
