Organizational Structure

An interactive organizational structure
ERF is organized to ensure maximum interaction between governance, management, and the ERF constituency:

Board of Trustees. ERF has a distinguished Board of Trustees of 13 members, with a maximum of four donor institutions represented, seven non-donor members elected by ERF''s Research Fellows, and two members appointed by the Board for regional balance. The Board appoints the Managing Director, sets policies and procedures, and approves the selection of Fellows and the annual Program of Work and Budget.

Advisory Committee. A nine-member Advisory Committee is appointed by the Board of Trustees to advise the Managing Director on substantive issues and to screen nominations for ERF affiliations. Advisory Committee members are eminent economists whose research record, professional expertise, and linkages with the international community of economists have been well established.

Research Fellows. Currently 113 in number, these are highly qualified economists from the region who are engaged in front-line research in their areas of specialization, with published output in refereed journals and books. Research Fellows play an important role in ongoing ERF activities such as electing the Board of Trustees, nominating new Fellows, developing and leading ERF research programs, refereeing papers, organizing meetings, and contributing to publications. Fellows are nominated by peers, screened by ERF''s Advisory Committee and approved by the Board of Trustees.

Senior Associates. Currently totaling 31, these are senior professionals from the region whose past research credentials and present position of influence provide an essential channel of communication with the policymaking community. Senior Fellows are nominated by peers, and approved by the Board of Trustees. They are non-voting members of the ERF constituency.

Research Associates. Currently totaling 46, these are promising young regional scholars whom ERF assists in capacity-building, through exposure to academic competition and training in sophisticated research tools and cutting-edge methodology. Research Associates are nominated by peers, screened by ERF''s Advisory Committee, and approved by the Board of Trustees. They are nonvoting members of the ERF constituency.

Secretariat. ERF’s offices are located in Cairo. A small professional team administers all ERF programs and provides technical and operational support for ongoing activities. Work is organized under four headings: Conferences, Workshops and Grants; Publications and Dissemination; Databank, Documentation, and Reference Library; and Research and Capacity-Building Programs. The Administrative and Financial Division supports all activities.
