All India Women’s Education Fund Association (AIWEFA)
Mechanism of Operation
In 1929 a group of visionary women including Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, Sarojini Naidu,Aruna Asaf Ali and Lady Dorothy Irwin instituted the
All India Women’s Education Fund Association with the objective of putting power into the hands of women.

The All India Women’s Education Fund Association(AIWEFA) was set up to advance the education of Indian women since this issue was recognised as the catalytic agent for social change. The establishment of Lady Irwin College in 1932 reflected this all-India need to promote the education of women and girls. By 1950, the College was recognised by Delhi University and for nearly seven decades AIWEFA focused largely on the management and expansion of facilities at the College.
In recent years we felt an increasing need to rediscover ourselves in this global era, to make ourselves more socially responsive, relevant and visible in the light of changing needs and issues of women.
We emerged from this introspection, stronger in our belief that while education continues to remain a core issue, its new dimensions now include legal awareness andinformation technology.Health, nutrition and economic independenceare the basic keys empowering women.
We strongly believe that sustainable development can only be achieved through partnerships, support-information sharing and active cooperation between NGOs, civil society,Governmentand Corporate sector.
