We aim to achieve these by enacting the following:
Supporting and informing
We help people with, and at risk of, cardiovascular disease by providing comprehensive information and guidance on how to minimise their risk. Annually, we distribute more than 1.3 million heart health brochures. Each year, our information service and our website provide heart health information to thousands of Australians.
Partnerships
We support and work with all levels of government, other health organisations, the media and community groups to implement policies and programs that improve the cardiovascular health of Australians. This includes programs on cardiovascular health risks such as smoking or physical inactivity, through to recovery and rehabilitation.
Improving care
To ensure that people diagnosed with cardiovascular disease receive the best possible care, we take the latest research and create practical treatment tools for health practitioners. Our vision is for Australians to have the best cardiovascular health in the world, regardless of their income, heritage or address. We work to bridge these gaps in care through programs specifically targeting those Australians at higher risk of cardiovascular disease.
Building healthy communities
We support local governments that change neighbourhoods to create healthier communities. Introducing cycle ways and upgrading walking paths are just two examples. We hold annual awards to recognise their initiaitives.
Promoting awareness
Through our community education campaigns and media activities we promote lifestyle changes to improve the heart health of Australians. For example, we are educating people about the warning signs and symptoms of a heart attack, and of the need to call 000 so they can get early treatment, to have the best chance for survival.
