We are pleased to be able to offer a highly specialized educational programme to broaden the knowledge, experience and understanding of intercultural relations for our interns and for volunteers who come to Egypt to work either at AWF, with one of our partners in Egypt or on a particular project.
This project originally started in cooperation with "Volunteer Services Abroad" (Freiwillige Dienste im Ausland) of the Catholic Diocese of Osnabrck in Germany and was co-financed through the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Auswaertiges Amt). Of course participants from other nationalities and languages are very welcome.
The aim of the training for young volunteers who are in Egypt for the first time is to help the participants to discover different aspects of Egyptian culture more deeply, and to provide them opportunities to reflect upon their experiences of their intercultural encounters. The modules include:
Intensive language course in Egyptian colloquial Arabic
Introduction to Egyptian culture
Introduction to Islam
Introduction to the Coptic Orthodox Church
Introduction to developmental issues and social projects in Egypt
Mid-year reflection
The training for foreign and Egyptian students who are interning or working in Egypt and have some experience in the Middle East is very flexible and contains the participation in lectures, workshops, conferences, seminars and interviews in English and/or Arabic. Other possibilities are visits in development, social or peace building related projects and organizations. The training activities are always connected with intercultural and interreligious dialogue and aim to give participants a deeper mutual understanding between the Arabic world and the West.
