Aftab Society is a non-governmental organization founded in 1998. Its activities are centred to three area of education and prevention, treatment and social acceptance, and support of families of drug addicts. Right from the outset one of the long-term objectives has been to expand the activities to all provinces across the country, particularly the deprived and dangerous provinces. Today part of these long-term objectives have been fulfilled, and as well as prevention and culture building, over the last year and a half the society has started its treatment activities too. The society has managed to set up 17 offices in 13 provinces.
The aftab society believed that the move towards the control and reduction of social problems is not possible without nationwide participation and legal and private communication between individuals and organizations. To this aim the most important factor in advancement is the unification of conconous to optimally utilize facilities and remove legal cultural and economic obstacles. And this factor has resulted in the increase in the population’s effort and basis for mutual cooperation among organizations (judicial, welfare, police, university, and most importantly the private individuals).
Aftab Society, registered in the UN list of NGOs, is the largest NGO in Iran. It works for prevention and treatment of drug addiction and offers education on the subject. Aftab Society’s branch offices are established in 13 various cities in Iran.
