Sustainability, social equality and the environment are now business problems. And corporate leaders can''t depend on governments to solve them." - Peter Senge, founder of the Society for Organisational Learning (SOL). Senge''s principles find an echo in the ideologies behind Smile Foundation formed in 2002 by two investment bankers who, along with 8-10 like-minded corporate professionals and technocrats, decided to finance, handhold and support genuine grassroots'' initiatives targeted at providing education and health to underprivileged children. In the process, becoming the first ever grantmaker and changing the face of thousands of lives.

India is a country of contrast! The country has 53 Billionaires, fourth highest in the world. But the same country also ranks 105 on ‘Education for all’ index. Among the world’s 10 richest persons, four are Indians. India’s economy is galloping with 8 % GDP growth. But also, 17 million children of this country work as labourers!

Is only the Government responsible for such state of affairs?

The desired changes in the society will come only when more and more privileged people with a desire to bring changes start participating proactively in “solution finding” process.

Believing in the same conviction, a group of corporate professionals came together in 2002 and promoted Smile Foundation. Today, as a national level development organisation, it reaches out to over 1 Lac children and youth through 104 projects on education, healthcare, girl child, livelihood and advocacy.

Smile Foundation has a bandwidth of 90 credibility certified partners, 20 leading institutions, and 945 schools, spread across 85 locations in 21 states of India; besides thousands of sensitized and privileged citizens across the globe.
