Ashok Kamath
Chairman
Ashok Kamath has taken over as Chairman from July I, 2008. He has been actively involved in the strategic planning, analysis and expansion of programmes at Akshara Foundation since 2003. An alumnus of IIT, Mumbai, he was formerly the Managing Director of the Indian operation of Analog Devices. He opted to leave behind a successful career in the corporate sector and involve himself in the development sector. Ashok is also a trustee of Pratham Books and PROOF. 
     
G. Kumar Naik
Vice Chairperson 
Mr. Naik, IAS, is the Commissioner for Public Instruction, Government of Karnataka and is an ex-officio member of the Board.

Kanchan Bannerjee
Managing Trustee 
Kanchan Bannerjee is the Managing Trustee. She is a sociologist and is trained in communications and teaching children with learning disabilities. She has been associated with the planning and execution of several of Akshara Foundation’s programmes since 2000. 
    
Upendra Tripathy, IAS
Upendra Tripathy, IAS, is the Managing Director, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation and is a founding member of Akshara Foundation.
  
Dr. S Subramanya, IAS
Dr. S Subramanya, IAS, Commissioner, BBMP, is an ex- officio member of the Board   
     
C V Madhukar
Madhukar is a founding member of Akshara Foundation and was instrumental in the growth of the organization in its formative years. He was an Edward S. Mason Fellow at Harvard University and is currently Director, PRS Legislative Research, which is being incubated at the Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi.

Rohini Nilekani
A well known philanthropist and author, Rohini Nilekani has been associated with
Akshara Foundation since its inception in 2000. She was the Chairperson of the Foundation from 2002 to 2008. Passionate about development issues, she is associated with a number of not for profit initiatives. She is the Chairperson and co- founder of Pratham Books, a non-profit publishing enterprise that produces children’s books. She is also the Chairperson and founder of Arghyam, which promotes equity and sustainability in access to water. 
     
R. Dhirendra
Dhirendra is CEO of Eduquity Career Technologies and has been on Akshara Foundation’s Board of Trustees since 2000. He holds a B.Com degree and also has a Masters in Business Administration. 
     
Mohandas Pai  
Currently employed as Member of the Board, Human Resources, Infosys Technologies Ltd, Mr. Mohandas Pai has been associated with Akshara Foundation since 2003. Mr. Pai has a B.Com and LLB from Bangalore university and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Rekha Menon
Rekha Menon is the India Geographic Services Lead at Accenture and has been on Akshara Foundation’s Board of Trustees since 2004. She has participated in the growth of the organization by providing regular strategic direction to Akshara Foundation’s programmes.
       
Suzanne Singh 
Suzanne Singh has been associated with Akshara Foundation since 2003. A management graduate, she has over 12 years experience in the advertising and marketing fields. She is actively involved in strategy planning and managing the communication needs of Akshara Foundation and Pratham.
  
Mr. Arnab Bhattacharya
Arnab Bhattacharya is Vice President, Corporate Banking, Citibank, Bangalore and is an ex- officio member of the Board.
