The Arab Program for Human Rights Activists   History & Mission
The Arab Program for Human Rights Activists (APHRA) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, registered in Cairo as a practical
step and positive development of continuous
general and public dissection of the problems,
needs, and aspirations of the activists working
in the field of human rights in the Arab world.   The Arab Program for Human Rights Activists (APHRA) was found in 1997 as an urgent necessity to protect and promote the Concepts of Human Rights and the Democratic Values through defending the Arab Human Rights Activists and Defenders as well as serving and strengthening the Arab Human Rights Movement.

The Arab Program for Human Rights Activists constitutes an objective and actual necessity in the Arab World, as it serves human rights activists on various levels, particularly in confronting the governments` violations directed against them. The program also organizes debates and discussions on the problems and obstacles the activists facing, and the effects of those obstacles on their ability to propagate. In this context, the establishment of the APHRA was a necessity for the constant progress in this field.

The program basically aims to maintain mutual solidarity and communication between human rights activists and the establishment of effective mechanism for the protection of activists. It also seeks to build an extensive database relating to human rights activists and organizations, as well as to promote the abilities and qualifications of those activists. The promotion of the activists’ abilities and qualifications includes technical, theoretical and empirical experiences in their daily work. Furthermore, the program seeks to ensure effective coordination between human rights activists on both domestic regional and international levels through:
     Documentation & Information Handling.
     Conferences, Seminars & Discussion Circles.
     Training & Education.
     Solidarity Campaigns & Events.
