IPJET was created in 1991 by a group of jurists from many countries, worried with the apparent passivity of the international community regarding the Indonesian occupation of East Timor. This international organisation intends to support the rights of the people from that territory.

The aim of the Platform is to end the illegal Indonesian occupation of East Timor, and to set up the conditions that will allow East Timorese to fulfil their Right of Self Determination.
