The Awassa Children’s Center currently supports 60 orphans by providing them with housing, education, heath care and social services. The Children’s Center’s primary focus is on providing these children with the best education possible so that they can contribute to society.
Children Education. The Awassa Children’s Center measured increased success resulting from our educational enhancement programs (e.g., educational summer camp and after-school tutoring). Currently over 20% of our children are ranked in the top three academic positions in their respective classes. At the Children’s Center, we also completed construction of a modern vocational training center, which includes a computer lab and additional formal educational programs, for more information please see Career Education.
The Awassa Children''s Project would also like to thank Educate The Children, who covered the expenses (books, tuition, uniforms, and supplies) for the education of 30 of the Children''s Center children in 2006. Educate The Children is a charity created to support the education of underprivileged children in our communities and those around the world. (read more about Educate the Children)
Health Care. The Awassa Children’s Center implemented an aggressive health care management program for the children. For the first time in the Center’s history, not a single child contracted malaria, despite a particularly difficult season this year. Our full time nurse provided over 400 documented instances of health care to the children in 2006.
