Regional Workshop in Nicaragua
 The Area of Good Governance and Human Progress will carry out the Regional Workshop of Evaluation and Monitoring of the Organized Political Advocacy Project: new ways of rural women empowerment in Managua, Nicaragua, on December 13th and 14th. The goal of the activity is to revise the progress of the advocacy projects in Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica, as well as to make a plan of activities for 2007 with the respective Ministries of Agriculture. In the workshop, not only will the Liaison Commitee representatives from these countries participate, but also those from the Gender Units of the region´s Ministries of Agriculture. Athletic race
 The Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress, in its efforts to promote peace, will organize its second athletic race, now labeled "Carrera Premio Nobel de la Paz 1987," (1987 Nobel Peace Prize Race), on December in San José, Costa Rica. The participants will be able to choose between running 10.5 or 21 Km. The start and finish line will be in front of the Museum for Peace on Avenida Segunda. Each participant should fill out the subscription documents, specially designed for the activity. The forms, along with the official poster, will be available soon at the store Runners (Curridabat and Pavas), the Palacio de los Deportes (San José), Duo Sport and at the Museum for Peace. Race - other information
 The athletic race "Premio Nobel de la Paz 1987" will have a parallel agenda for those individuals who are interested in taking part in the celebration. There will be a limited number available for the kids´ race, which will be 200 meters long. Many prices will be given to those kids who participate, including a t-shirt and a medal Furthermore, a dance class, provided by the dance representative of "Buen Día" will be available to the public after the start of the race. Workshop on "Participatory Budget"
 A workshop entitled "Presupuestos participativos con enfoque de género" (Participatory Budgets with an approach on gender) will be carried out in San José on November 22nd and 23rd. This activity will gather experts on the topic on a Latin American level and organizations involved in the topics of gender equity and local development of Central America. This event is sponsored by the Swedish Cooperation Center. At present, The Area of Good Governance and Human Progress works, with the collaboration of the Executive and Technical Directions and the Institute of Higher Studies, towards the creation of a "Toolbox" for the production of participatory budget processes. ...


"Toward good Governance: tasks yet pending"
 October 12th was the last day of the regional symposium that was coordinated by the Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress at the Ramada Herradura Hotel in San José, Costa Rica. Workshop in Guatemala
 Workshop "Indicators for the profile of local governance" Town Council of Choloma, Puerto Cortés, Honduras September 21st, 2006 The workshop entitled "Indicators for the profile of local governance" was carried out in the municipality of Choloma, Department of Puerto Cortés, Honduras, in the framework of the project "Hagamos las cuentas: oficio de la ciudadanía, diálogo político y gobernabilidad democrática" ("Let´s do the accounts: the work of the citizens, political dialogue and democratic governance"). The workshop entitled "Indicators for the profile of local governance" was carried out in the municipality of Choloma, Department of Puerto Cortés, Honduras, in the framework of the project "Hagamos las cuentas: oficio de la ciudadanía, diálogo político y gobernabilidad democrática" ("Let´s do the accounts: the work of the citizens, political dialogue and democratic governance"). This workshop was granted to members of the Transparency Commission, community leaders and functionaries of municipalities, such as the Vice-mayoress of the municipality. The goal of this activity was to provide capacity-building to participants in the use of the tool produced by the Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress: Marco Analítico para la Gobernabilidad Local (Analytical Framework for Local Governance), which is made up of a theoretical-conceptual structure or outline about local democratic governance and a series of indicators that contribute to measure it. sobre gobernabilidad democrática local y una serie de indicadores que contribuyen a medirla. The work of the Arias Foundation is divided among three distinct areas: Peace and Human Security, Good Governance and Human Progress, and Advanced Studies and Investigation.

The Area for Peace and Human Security focuses efforts on diminishing conflicts, preven- ting social violence and encouraging demilitarization, disarmament, and education for peace through the following programs and sub-programs:
