The Association Tunisienne des Mères (ATM) is subjected to the law of association N° 154-59 dated 7 Novembee 1959, and to the amendments of August 2 1988; and to law N°25-92 dated April 2 1992 regulating status of associations.

Initially created as subsidiary of the « Mouvement Mondial des Mères » (MMM-Tunisie) in April 1992, l’ATM obtained its visa officiel from the Ministry of Interior through the Governorate of Ariana on August 11 1992. It had been classified as a women’s association by decree N° 4964 (October 1992) JORT N°108 dated 30 October 1992.

In 1993, the ATM obtained the right to publish its monthly magazine “Mères Echos” in the Arab and French languages.

Since April 9 1996, the Association changed its denomination to its present one: «Association Tunisienne des Mères » (ATM) (JORT n°33).

By ministerial decree N° 1016 dated May 12 1999 (JORT N°1420), the association became a Public National Women’s Non-Governmental Organisation.

Following a Ministry of Finances decision (decree N° 39 dated21 Mars 2001), the ATM obtained the authorisation to award micro-credits to beneficiary mothers. These credits are financed by la Banque Tunisienne de Solidarité (the Tunisian Bank of Solidarity).

In ATM’s second convention in August 2002, the ATM amended its status and registered it at the Ministry of Interior through the governorate of Tunis.
