RURAL AND AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT
* Agricultural Center of the North (ACN)
In 1994, the RMF launched its agricultural activities with the establishment of the Agricultural Center of the North (ACN). Our center mainly targets farmers unable to cope with the many agricultural difficulties that the deficient agricultural system poses. Over the years, the foundation has been expanding its agricultural development program towards more comprehensive projects.
Until today, the RMF follows a detailed action plan to promote the well-being of disadvantaged agricultural families. We are concerned with the whole agricultural cycle, from the production to the marketing of the end products. Furthermore, we provide farmers with a direct link to market networks according to our following objectives:
- Reduction of production costs for small farmers
- Improvement of the quality of production and increase its returns
-Creation of agricultural cooperatives
- Inform and train farmers and cooperatives members
- Improve the marketing of the products
* Environment protection
- Creation of Environment clubs in schools
- Organization of awareness campaigns, seminars and workshops on crucial environmental issues (waste management, reforestation, etc.)
- Participation in reforestation activities in collaboration with municipalities and local NGOs and preservation of bio-diversity through the plant nursery
- Promotion of environmentally friendly agricultural practices (by using organic manure, reducing the use of pesticides, etc.)
HEALTH PROGRAM
* Community Clinic:
In 1991, the RMF opened a medical community clinic in Zgharta, which serves the most destitute regions, such as the suburbs of Tripoli, and the Akkar, Dannieh and Zgharta areas.
The Community clinic offers the following services:
- Dental clinic
- Ophthalmology clinic
- Laboratory
- Pharmacy
- Specializations such as pediatrics, cardiology, internal medicine, general medicine etc.
* Mobile clinic:
This service has been launched in 1991 with the aim of reaching the remote and inaccessible villages such as Akkar, Dannieh, Ehden, Bcharreh, Batroun, and Minieh.
Three ambulances visit around 200 remote villages each month at fixed hours, where they dispense medicine and provide basic health care.
* Public health program:
The RMF regularly organizes vaccination campaigns and health awareness activities. It further distributes drugs and medical equipment.
* Telecommunication and Information Technology center
This center is an important element of the RMF’s strategy for social integration and empowerment of the young. This is done through the development of proximity educational and leisure services. This strategy not only puts forward vocational and technical education, but Information and Communication Technology, in order to stimulate sustainable development in underprivileged regions.
SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Activities of the RMF in the social sector are focused on:
- Children Rights The program is carried out on two levels: on the advocacy and education level, we aim to spread knowledge and awareness of children’s rights. On the field level, we endeavor to provide free primary education for all children as well as a quality social environment in the most underprivileged regions.
- Economic and social empowerment of women This program seeks to enhance education, professional skills and gender awareness among women. We strive to improve their well-being, to promote their economic independence, and to increase their participation in decision-making.
DEMOCRACY AND HUMAN RIGHTS
The RMF aims to provide civil society with the reflection tools, which are necessary for the consolidation of democratic practices and the rule of the law. It strives to maintain coordination between the different components of the civil society, especially those who want to play a strategic role as partners in development and catalysts of change.
