Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services (CEOSS)
History and Background

CEOSS is a Christian civil non-profit organization with roots in the Protestant Presbyterian Church. CEOSS began in 1950, and was registered with the Ministry of Social Affairs in Cairo in 1960. Reformed theological concepts and practical scientific experiences frame its reality and shape its vision of the future. The organization delivers its services without regard to gender, race, religion or beliefs.

The mission of CEOSS is to promote the sanctity, equity and harmony of life. It seeks to contribute to transformation of society by nurturing moral and spiritual awareness, enhancing a sense of belonging, promoting respect for diversity, addressing conflict and advancing social justice for individuals and communities.

Mission and Vision :
The mission of CEOSS is implemented according to the following major goals:

 To improve the quality of life in impoverished communities

CEOSS addresses problems of health, education, economics, agriculture, and environment plaguing individuals and families in poor rural and urban squatter areas. With the organizational structures; builds links between residents service providers, and government officials; and raises the awareness  of individuals to demand their rights-civil, economic and social. CEOSS offers credit and supportive services to the entrepreneurial poor, especially destitute women, to establish income-generating projects.

• To empower communities and individuals with sustainable development

CEOSS builds up the abilities of poor and marginalized communities and individuals to effect change so the people can live dignified lives. Community-based organizations learn constructive forms of internal governance, effective community development approaches, and importance of promoting gender equity.
Volunteer leaders assume significant roles in program implementation. CEOSS encourages mobilization of local resources, partnerships with multiple stakeholders, and networking with concerned organizations to create significant and long-lasting impact.

• To promote a culture of dialogue based on pluralistic democratic approaches and respect for human rights

CEOSS invites Christian and Muslim religious leaders, intellectuals, and media opinion-makers to study contemporary social issues objectively, analytically, and cordially, thereby building mutual understanding and trust. Through dialogue and cooperative learning, CEOSS encourages individuals to work together to promote reconciliation, peace, and progress.

• To promote religious and social enlightenment

CEOSS Strives to improve understanding of present day realities. It promotes enlightened thought in the reformed theological perspective to encourage a broadened vision and role for the Egyptian church and Egyptian civil society. It equips these segments so they can effectively address social and political tension resulting from increased violence, poverty, and intolerance. It encourages finding solutions within an enlightened framework of mature Christian thinking.
