The Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement
History and Background

The Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement is the first international initiative emanating from the Middle East, which seeks to place women at the center of peace and human security dialogues. The Movement's goal is to fuse the energy and creativity of various international organizations, agencies and peace advocates in a global effort to ensure that women are more actively and visibly represented in all aspects of conflict prevention, resolution and reconstruction. Working alongside men, we aim to promote the Culture of Peace and Tolerance throughout the world and participate in the realization of sustainable development based on social justice, equity and respect for human rights.   The Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement is a non-profit, non-governmental, international association registered in Geneva, with a secretariat based in Cairo.  The Egyptian Ministry of Social Affairs has granted The Association permit No.21/2003.

Vision :
Our Vision is to make a significant contribution to the realization of a more peaceful world through increasing the participation of women in all activities, which promote peace and enhance human security.

The objectives of the organization were established by a conference of international peacemakers in Sharm el Sheikh in 2002.

During this ‘Dialogue for Action' it was agreed that, in order to utilize the remarkable skills of women and make them more active in peace building, we need to create a movement that will serve as :
• A platform for making silent voices heard.
• A forum for dialogue and information sharing.
• A means of building alliances for collaborative action.
• An opportunity to engage the wider participation of civil society in peace building.

Mission :

Its main objective is to link up with the multitude of organizations, agencies and peace activists that are working on the various aspects of conflict prevention, resolution and reconstruction, offering a platform for all to join forces and strengthen the impact of individual initiatives.

All those who have joined the movement strongly believe that women have a vested interest in preventing wars and share a sense of common purpose and commitment to the values of enhancing peace, prosperity and the promotion of the common good thus contributing to a better world –a world of peace for the coming generations.
