Awal association is a voluntary feminist association funded by donations and charity awqaf. The association recruits female workers who are paid monthly salaries to carry out the various projects. It also coordinates with certain ministries to manage joint projects . The association has an elected executive committee consists of president, vice president, secretary, financial secretary and administrative members each in her position manages and supervises the various activities in cooperation with general assembly's members. The association is cooperating with equivalent association in achieving joint projects if found in Bahrain or abroad
Awal is a member in many leagues of association in Arab or international level such as :
- Arab League of Women since 1975
- Democratic League of Women since early seventies
- Arab Family Organization since 1975
- founding member in the committee of Female Action Coordination in the Gulf Area and Arabia since 1981
- founding member in the Arab NGOs for Development Network since 1996
- founding member in the tribunal of women : Arab Tribunal on violence against women since 1996
- member in the Arab Network of NGOs since 1999
