Kurdish Women's Rights Watch
History and Background

What is KWRW?
Kurdish Women''s Rights Watch grew out of Kurdish Women''s Action Against Honour Killings (KWAHK), with the aim of monitoring and promoting the interests of Kurdish women both in relation to honour-based violence and in relation to human and civil rights in general.

It was founded in June 2004 as a network of Kurdish and non-Kurdish women and men, including community activists, academics, lawyers as well as legal professionals, and journalists. It is a non-profit-making, non-political and non-partisan organisation.

Our aims are:
To raise awareness of the human, social and civil rights of Kurdish women, and to monitor violations of those rights
To monitor and combat domestic violence, honour-based violence and all other forms of violence and discrimination against women
To promote the health, education and social well-being of Kurdish women
We work on projects in support of these aims with women, women''s groups and human rights organisations in Kurdistan and in Kurdish communities in the diaspora.

KWAHK continues within the new organisation as a campaign specifically on honour-based violence.
