In l995, the Arka Foundation felt the need of a Respite Centre in Gozo for disabled persons and their families.
The local church donated a sizeable plot of land at Ghajnsielem, a few hundred metres away from the main harbour. Through the collective efforts of dedicated and talented Gozitans, under the guidance of the hard-working Mgr Manuel Curmi, a Respite Centre was built, the first one of its kind in Gozo.
It was officially opened on 3rd December, 2000. It has three levels and can accommodate 32 clients in 19 bedrooms, eleven of which are en-suite. It is fully air-conditioned centrally heated and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including two therapeutic baths, two large heated pools, a jacuzzi, a gym, and wheelchair-friendly facilities.
