What we do
A brief overview of our areas of work:
Advice & Referral Service
Our UK-wide Advice and Referral Service provides support and assistance in all matters relating to the law and the environment, using ELF''s network of expert legal and technical advisers, who help people resolve their environmental and community problems. In addition, we have started a new project ELF Plus giving legal advice through a project solicitor from ELF''s office to London based communities and individuals.
Sustainable Communities Project
The Sustainable Communities Project helps and support community groups on all aspects of environmental law and in particular on how to effectively participate in environmental decision making; by organising and running workshops, seminars, surgeries and other events in their region. We provide information and publications for individuals and groups, raises awareness about environmental rights and justice and inform people about ELF and our services.
Training and Education
The skills and expertise of ELF and our members are used to inform the legal and other professions about topical environmental issues through the provision of training and educational events. ELF provides Continuing Professional Development training that is accredited by the Law Society, the Bar Council and the Institute of Legal Executives. We also run a training programme for volunteers and interns supporting our Advice and Referral Service and Community Outreach Programme.
Policy and Research
ELF promotes access to environmental justice for the communities we represent and encourage environmental awareness at every opportunity. We help empower communities and individuals to make real change for the better, for the environment and for the future. ELF participates in national and international debates to help improve social and environmental policy and law.
