Educational project „Tackling xenophobia: the raising profile of human rights education in major Lithuanian universities“

Lithuanian centre for human rights, in cooperation with Royal Embassy of Netherlands is implementing human rights education project „Tackling xenophobia: the raising profile of human rights education in major Lithuanian universities“. Project will be implemented from October 2008 to March 2009. During this project, students of Law and Public administration will discuss current human rights issues and will participate in moot court competition. The main sponsor this project is Royal Embassy of Netherlands.

A human rights film festival "Ad Hoc: Inconvenient Films"

Human rights film festival “Ad hoc: inconvenient films” is a the first and so far the only one documentary film festival, dealing with human rights themes in Lithuania as well as in the Baltic states. The festival in 2008 is organised with the support of the European Commission, through the grant to the project “Equality through tolerance and education”. The festival was moved to autumn and will take place October 23 – November 9, 2008 in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda. Again organized by a local non-governmental organization Lithuanian Centre for Human Rights (LCHR) in partnership with “WatchDocs” film festival in Poland. Althought there is no jury, in the end of the festival the award will still be given to the film, most appreciated by viewers. The “Audience award” will be given to the most appreciated film after screenings in Vilnius. In 2008 the seconf edition of the festival was attended by almost 13 000 viewers and became the 3rd biggest film event in the country. A web-project on tolerance and non-discrimination (www.manoteises.lt)

Since 2005 LCHR is managing a web-project on tolerance and non-discrimination. The website, dedicated to equality, non-discrimination and human rights issues encompasses articles on diversity, minorities cultural heritage and human rights, quizzes. The web-project encompasses useful information about international and national human rights protection mechanisms (e.g. guidelines on the application to the European Court of Human Rights, UN HR Committee, etc.). The web-site also has a photo gallery “Diversity gallery: all different all equal”. In 2008 the website was sponsores by the PROGRESS programme of the European Commission as well as co-funded by the Ministry of Justice of Lithuania.
