Internationalization… Our Voice Out to the World
PYALARA carries out several youth exchange projects between Palestinian and foreign young journalists. In addition, PYALARA activates some of its members to become ambassadors on behalf of their Palestinian peers, who represent their peers, their society, and their political cause.
Networking with young people on the regional and international levels is PYALARA’s method for creating intercultural dialogue and sustainable cooperation and understanding.
The Youth Times
Our Own Newspaper… From Youth to Youth
The Youth Times (TYT), established in 1998, has developed into a 24-page monthly paper by and for young Palestinians. It is considered the first youth newspaper in Palestine. TYT has a nationwide circulation with readership reaching more than 120.000 youth readers (14-25 years old). TYT reflects the interests and concerns of young Palestinians by giving them the opportunity to contribute in their monthly newspaper. Its aim is three folds: providing a self-expression platform; shedding the light on Youth problems, needs, and concerns; and finally, contributing towards developing professional Palestinian media.
Alli Sotak
Young people speak up on TV
Alli Sotak [Speak Up] was launched in 2002 by the young people of PYALARA with technical and financial support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Alli Sotak is a two-hour live programme broadcast via the earth and satellite channels of Palestine TV (Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation). It is considered a breakthrough in the policy of Palestine TV, since the programme is produced by a group of young Palestinians and tackles their issues, concerns, needs and aspirations. The programme deals with civic and political current issues that are featured on the national, regional and international arenas. It is frequently viewed by more than 300.000 young people, according to estimates of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.
Youth Activation
PYALARA, since its inception, focused on activating the role of young people in the Palestinian society.
WE CARE: A positive and Supporting Role for their peers and Beyond
We Care is a youth-to-youth counseling and mentoring project. It was set up in response to the negative psychosocial impact the political situation has on Palestinian youth and children. We Care involves intensive training of psychology and sociology university students in group counseling to enable them to help other young people (12-18 years old). It provides the young trainees with needed skills to encourage other young people to cope with their psychosocial tensions in a creative and constructive manner.
As a result of the demands of the young beneficiaries of We Care, who requested more of a one-on-one intervention, the Youth-to-Youth hotline was launched. The Youth to Youth hotline ‘Ihna Ma’ak’ [We are there for you] provides eight hours per day of assistance and counseling to young people through simply dialing a toll free number 1800 535 535.
Youth 4 Change
“You must be the change you want to see in the world”- Mahatma Gandhi
Our motto is “We can make a difference”. “Youth 4 Change” encourages young Palestinians to have a close look at themselves and their communities. Young people address issues like:
• Are you satisfied with yourself?
• Are you playing a constructive role in your community?
• Are you aware of your rights and responsibilities?
By joining our “Youth 4 Change” groups you can start the process of real change on the individual, community and national levels
