Organizations Activites - Programms:
The Culture and Free Thought Association (CFTA):
The association is working within the community to encourage social development through cultural, health and educational programmes.
Its aims are to promote ideas of civil society along with its basic values of equality, co-operation and democracy within all aspects of Palestinian life. CFTA was established in 1992 by five women from political organizations in the Gaza Strip in conjunction with the European Union and the French NGO, Enfants Refuges du Monde.
They came together to establish five autonomous centers which focus on the needs of the Palestinian people.
Today CFTA is involved in many projects within and out of the five centres located in Khan Yonis. It also employs and trains more than fifty staff.
Al Shroq Wal Amal Children Centre (Sunrise and Hope):
This center was set up in Khan Younis camp in April 1992. This centre provides children between the ages of 6-12 opportunities in education, self- awareness, creative expression through an innovative program of activities, trips and projects.
Bunat Il Ghad Teenager Centre (Builders of The Future):
The centre was created in October 1993 for children 12-18 years old in Khan Younis camp and offers a place where teenagers can meet and develop skills through creative learning processes.
Activities include art, music, drama and Debka classes, photography, video and computer training. Teenagers also participate in debates, games, trips and performances. They have also been publishing a successful magazine.
The Gaza Women Credit Programme:
The Gaza Women Credit Program was initiated in October 1995. This is a loan program offered to women in the Gaza Strip whom are living under difficult economic conditions. In co-operation with ANERA a USA, NGO, loans are offered on a long term and low interest basis to assist women in setting up small-scale enterprises which would augment family income and raise their standard of living.
Palestinian Children’s Cultural Centre:
This Centre was opened in November 1998 and it involves young people from the ages of 6-18. The centre’s aims is to connect young people with their Palestinian identity and to exchange ideas through music, art and theatre. Training programmes, festivals, exhibitions and numerous cultural activities are organised throughout the year.
The Women Health Centre:
This Centre is the first of its kind in the Gaza Strip and West Bank that addresses the physical and psychological health needs of women in a comprehensive and community focused manner. In addition to receiving individual gynecological medical attention, the women of the camp are provided with information and advice regarding family planning, birth control, preventing sexually transmitted diseases and ante and post-natal care.
The center offers individual and group psychological services, legal counseling and social assistance to women. Gymnastics and exercise classes are organized in the center as well. Finally, a series of health workshops, training seminars and outreach programs have been conducted in the center and throughout Bureij, focusing on topics that have been requested by the women of the camp.
