Organization’s history, background and mission:
PSCF was officially established in l999 as a Palestinian, national, non-governmental organization to promote education, women rights, water and environmental health, agricultural and youth development and human rights. The purpose of Palestine Save the Children Foundation (PSCF) is to enable the women and children in Palestinian refugee camps and other disadvantaged Communities in Gaza/West Bank to develop and improve their lives economically, socially, and educationally and health by working in partnership with their families and with the communities in which they live. This entails a bottom-up approach to development, whereby people at the grassroots level, regardless of their status, can participate in the planning and implementation of many socio-economic development projects. PSCF is a non-profit organization engaged in training, technical assistance, advocacy, litigation, awareness raising, environmental education, water & sanitation and education all over the Gaza strip. So far, PSCF has implemented several projects that aim in general at empowering local cadres and civil society groups to expand the scope of human rights protection for women and children and youth and to promote broad participation in building more effective human rights standards and procedures
As a catalyst and innovator, PSCF seeks to promote this approach among local non-governmental and governmental development agencies. Since its establishment, PSCF main office is located in Gaza city and it was always the start point and meeting point of all employees as well as being the management centre. However, due to having several projects in the middle area and within the constant Israeli closures resulted from the current situation, PSCF has recently established a branch in the middle area located at the entry of El Bureij camp. The staffs who work on projects in the middle area all meet there, in addition, a secretary and a cleaner are recruited. The accountant and the projects managers visit the branch office on a regular basis for follow up and monitoring and according to projects needs.
The mission of Palestine Save the Children Foundation (PSCF) is to enable the women and children in Palestinian refugee camps and other disadvantaged Communities in Gaza/West Bank to develop and improve their lives economically, socially, and educationally and health by working in partnership with their families and with the communities in which they live.
Programming Principles:
Palestine Save the Children Foundation (PSCF) has established three basic elements to guide its programs.
Child-Focused:
Palestine Save the Children Foundation believes that children are the central focus of all PSCF Programs, and women are a key to PSCF's work in that, in their multiple roles as economic producers, primary caregivers, and community/household manger. PSCF's women-child sectoral focus is the overarching principle which guides our planning and programming.
Empowerment of families and communities through partner-ship with local NGO’s:
Save the Children Foundation helps others to help themselves. Through is programs,
PSCF supports the empowerment of communities through the strengthening of local NGO's to deliver serves within the community . At the same time, we keep in our programs, a very specific emphasis and focus on women and children to ensure that community development we foster achieves our primary goals.
Sustainability:
Palestine Save the Children Foundation seeks to develop skills and promote behavior that will endure, and thus ensure positive ongoing changes in the lives of Palestinian children. We believe the most effective way to help children is to strengthen their community, to educate their parents; to encourage gender equality, and improve the system that provide children and mothers with needed services.
