Organization’s activities, programs, reports, and news
In the past three years, PSCF implemented several projects in different locations of Gaza strip, in addition to some projects that are under implementation, these projects can be described as follows:
1- To Promote Environmental Health Conditions in Al Zarqa Area (1 Nov 04 – 30 April 05): a six-month project with total budget of USD89,650 funded by MAP UK. It is implemented in Al Al Zarqa Area, Tuffah Zone Gaza city. The goal of the project is to reduce the environmental health risks of people in Al Zarqa Area by integrating environmental health and hygiene education with infrastructure works, with a focus on women and children. The project activities will focus on improving the environmental health status of the poor urban community in Al Zarqa Area in particular through road, water and sewage works, while introducing hygiene education and environmental awareness through local organizations and the implementation of a Child-to-Child program. The project will be implemented by PSCF professional staff in collaboration with local organizations and participating communities.
2- Environmental Health Education/Awareness in Bureij Camp (Dec 03 – April 04): a 17-month project funded by Tamkeen with a total budget of $162, 235. It is a renewal of the project that was previously carried out in different parts of Nusirat Refugees camp, and which has been implemented by PSCF and funded by Tamkeen. The project aims at improving the environmental health education/awareness and promoting the concepts and behaviours of human rights, democracy and community participation in Bureij Camp through home-to-home visits, health sessions and Child-to-Child program.
3- To Promote Children’s Environmental Health in the Beach Refugee Camp (April 04-May 05): a 16-month project funded by Tamkeen with total budget of $126,407. The main objective of this PSCF project is to enhance awareness and adoption of attitudes and practices to preserve, protect and promote a healthy environment among children in the Beach Refugee Camp. This project addresses children’s environmental health in a comprehensive way and its strategic priorities encompass all aspects of the environment that represent a threat to children’s health and development in refugee camps with a focus on the Beach Refugee Camp. By integrating and coordinating activities within the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, Palestine Water Authority, Gaza Municipality, local community members and UN Environmental Health Departments, it provides a focal point and offers a voice to children’s environmental health concerns through awareness raising activities, information dissemination and capacity building.
4- Improving Life Conditions of the Physically Disabled Individuals in Gaza City Neighborhoods and Gaza Middle Area (April 04 – Feb 05): this project has started in April it is one-year duration, funded by Care International with total budget of $186,460. It aims at improving life conditions of the physically disabled individuals in Gaza city neighborhoods and Gaza middle area by providing them with comprehensive rehabilitation services and supporting their community integration. The project comprises several components mainly physiotherapy occupational therapy and psycho/social therapy sessions through home visits, distribution of technical aids and medical disposals, home adaptations, family awareness sessions, training.
5- Refugee Children Summer Camps (June – Aug 2004): a 3-month duration project that is funded by the European Commission with total budget of 20,000 Euro. It is implemented in three main locations: Middle Area Refugee Camps, Jabalia Refugee Camp and the Beach Camp. This project has three main objectives: 1) - To enhance the democratic mode of thinking for 500 children and support them both, psychologically and materially through conduction of a 3-weeks summer day camp that allows them participation in different cultural and educational activities such as sports, computer sessions, lectures on children rights, drawings, as well as a trip to the Legislative Council. In addition, participating children will acquire the system of election as a democratic mode of selecting leaders through election of summer camp sub-committees leaders.
2) - To give 500 boys and girls (aged 6-14) an enjoyable experience of living, working, and playing together to develop a sense of cooperation and self- reliance, and
3) - To build friendship between participants from different areas in Gaza Strip
6- To Improve the Living Conditions of the Physically Disabled and Individuals Needing Glasses in the Middle Gaza Strip (March-August 2004) : it is a health care service sector project funded through MAP/UK for a period of six months with an amount of $55,500. The project targets two major beneficiary groups of women and children; the physically disabled and school-children needing glasses. The project activities also comprise training on inclusive education, physiotherapy, psychotherapy and occupational therapy in addition to distribution of technical aids and medical supplies.
7- Community Based Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities in Gaza City Neighborhoods (July 05 - Feb. 06): this project is funded by MAP-UK with an amount of $46,720. The project aims to: 1) to promote the human rights of persons with disabilities by raising awareness and mobilizing resources in the targeted neighborhoods. 2) To establish links between service providers in health, education, community development and social welfare. 3) To enhance the role and skills of CBR Workers by conducting a TOT in CBR approach. 4) To support inclusive education at schools located in the targeted neighborhoods. 5) To provide physically disabled individuals in the neighborhoods of Gaza with comprehensive rehabilitation treatment including physiotherapy, occupational, therapy and psych-therapy sessions.
8- Promoting Environmental Health Conditions in Al Zarqa Area, Gaza Strip: (Jan. 06 – Dec. 07): a 2- years duration project that is funded by European Commission and MAP-UK with total budget of $464,086. This project will be implemented in Block C and Block D in Al Zarqa area. The main objectives of the project are: 1) To link Block C and Block D of Al Zarqa area with the municipal main sewage network.
2) To improve the quality and reliability of drinking water by installing main water pipes lines.
3) To provide Al Zaqa area with a number of solid waste containers.
4) To conduct training courses about community health issues.
