The Mediterranean Institute (IMED), established in 1987, is a non-profit institution. IMED has a general vocation and acts in the Euro-Mediterranean area in three strategic fields:
• economic and social development
• citizenship
• culture
Its objectives are:
• To contribute to the design and implementation of a policy of Euro-Mediterranean co-development
• To contribute to the establishment of a centre of Mediterranean development within the strategic Euro-Mediterranean area
• To contribute to the strengthening of civil society in the Mediterranean area, in a pluralistic and democratic way
• To contribute to a Euro-Mediterranean citizenship
• To contribute to the forging of Mediterranean identity and culture
