The institute was established in 1998 by an initiative from Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser Al Misnad, wife of His Highness the Emir of Qatar; with the aim of providing appropriate education to the people with vision disability.

The institute enjoys the support of the government and private sector, mainly the support of Her Highness Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser Al Misnad, and some national companies and establishments. The institute is looking forward to be an educational center providing its services to people with vision disabilities in order to integrate them in the general discussion system.
