The society was established as a charity association with a legal personality, and in accordance with the provisions of law no.(2) of 1994, and the amended laws thereafter. The association started to assume its role and activities by 6th May 1992.

Objectives:
Article No.(4) of the society''s basic law that the association aims to render social, health and psychological care to the people with special needs in the state of Qatar. The main objectives of the society are:
1. Establishing specialized centers to look after people with special needs and preparing them occupationally, educationally, psychologically, behaviourally and socially.
2. Providing medical, compensatory and supporting equipment and appliances in addition to the educational explanatory means and instruments.
3. Enlightening the society members with the problems suffered by the people with special needs and methods of disease prevention.
4. Conducting research and studies, editing books and publication and issuing of periodical and journals which highlight the services rendered to the people with special needs; in addition to holding of seminars, lectures and conferences, plus the participation of such events at the local and international levels.
5. Arranging of meetings between the social and psychological expert and the people with special needs for preparing case studies taking into consideration all surrounding circumstances.
