Youth Association for Population and Development
Activities and Programs
(A): Youth to Youth Peer Education Program:
The development and implementation of the youth peer education program was regarded as one of the success stories of YAPD that carried various important messages for the development of information and awareness sharing initiatives in Egypt now and in the future. The United nations Populations Population Fund (UNFPA) took the role of funding youth to Youth program. The Center for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA) acted as coordinating body in partnership with three Egyptian NGOs: the Institute for Training and Research in Family Planning (ITRFP); the Youth Association for Population and Development (YAPD), and the Egyptian Federation of Scouts and Girl Guides ( EFSGG).
     Youth to youth pioneers the use of peer education in Egypt , which is a learner-centered approach to information and experience sharing that utilizes the natural flow of information among youths. The program is in essence a series of activities and questions discussed in informal groups facilitated by a team of three peer educators. These activities and questions are outlined in the produced manual, which provides the framework for all discussion and activities. The produced manual was divided into eleven units, which are discussed in thirty-six hour-long sessions. Examples of the areas covered in these unites are: the psychological health and well-being, human relations, people and environment, youth and career, family planning and violence against women. Last but not least, it is crucial to note that the project succeeded in building human capabilities and encouraging spirit of voluntarism among youth in Egypt.

(B); Egyptian Volunteer Center(EVC):
It has been the pleasure of YAPD to work in conjunction with the Center for Development services (CDS) in adopting and implementing the initiative of establishing the Egyptian volunteer Center (EVC); an initiative aimed at matching the skills and interests of individuals with the needs of various organizations and projects reaching out to the community. The vision of EVC, located in YAPD headquarter, is based on creating an Egyptian volunteer movement, through promoting the concept and spirit of voluntarism among all sectors of society, particularly youth, with the ultimate goal of supporting development initiatives in Egypt. The project was implemented in three Governorates of Egypt: Cairo, Alexandria and Menia, and it lasted for two years. It worth mentioning that one of the aims of the projects was to present EVC as a model for an applicable volunteer center to be replicated in Egypt and the Arab world.
The whole period of the project witnessed various achievements, mainly: (1): the formulation of the permanent utilized tools of the Center which are, three application forms for the organizations, volunteers and the "opportunity" form; (2): the design of an electronic database that incorporates data of three basic application forms for gaining the best matching of the volunteer and the organization; (3): building strong relationships with governmental and non governmental institutions, mainly the Ministry of Youth; (4): building strong relationships with youth and volunteer who showed real commitment to voluntary work. By the end of the project, total number for volunteers reached 850 volunteer; 650 from greater Cairo; 120 from Alexandria and 100 from Minia. On the other side, total number of NGOs and youth centers reached 104 organization; 89 from greater Cairo, 9 from Alexandria and 6 from Minia. This number reflects the confidence the center gained from youth who were successfully placed in organizations and acquired real benefits from their participation there.

(C): Bridging the gap between Education and the labor Market:
At present, unemployment comes on top of the list of predicaments in many countries, particularly developing ones, and it is the result of an accumulation of various problems in the society. In Egypt, unemployment is the real touch stone of the process of economic and social development. Though contemporary economic reform plans aim to revive the national economy, unemployment remains the first obstacle to current reform efforts. " Bridging the gap between education and the labor market" is a joint effort between the (CDS) and (YAPD) that attempts to identify and conceptualize the main concerns of Egyptian Youth at our contemporary world, especially issues related to culture, identity, Islam and development and the role of women in society and community development.
     The project has several goals that include a field research in three Governorates: Cairo, Alexandria and Menia in order to identify the needs  of youth in various issues, such as employment, globalization and the role of women in society. Developing/updating training manuals that covers various aspects related to youth and training of trainers is among the goals of the project. Another goal is to deliver training to about 100 boy and girl on the facilitation skills that would enable them implementing the manual with their peers in other Governorates. The project is to be implemented in three consecutive phases using the participatory approach between  the CDS and YAPD, through involving YAPD staff to be able to undertake similar tasks in the future. The project is currently in its middle way as the last period marked a real progress in conducting the field research and developing the project manual.

(D) : Reproductive Health and enhancing skills of adolescents:
The overall goal of the project is to raise the awareness of Egyptian youth regarding reproductive health, which includes information on STD''s, and especially HIV/AIDS to create an opportunity for them to lead a natural and healthy reproductive and sexual life. The main objectives of the project include conducting a qualitative research to document  what youth need to learn about reproductive health and sex education, creating a session-by-session training manual to be used by youth or trainers alike  and establishing Counseling Centers in youth centers for newly married or pre-married couples and/or adolescents and youth interested in gaining information on reproductive health. Targeted Beneficiaries include Egyptian youth and adolescents, NGO''s working with youth, whether local or regional, youth centers, and trainers working in youth of reproductive health issues. The project team is currently in the process of identifying the health and counseling needs of young males and females; in addition to the needs of the youth centers. This assessment is currently conducted in Assuit and Qena Governorates.

(E) Establishing volunteer centers in schools "Bader":
Another project in the area of voluntarism is Bader. It aims at rooting the concepts of voluntarism and development in the minds and spirits in young generations in this early stage of their lives. The project aims to create 18 volunteer centers in 18 primary, preparatory, and secondary schools in 4 Governorates with the support of Vodafone Foundation for Community Development.
     The project is implemented in partnership with Youth Association for Population and Development YAPD, under the auspice of the Ministry of Education.
     The project name " Bader" is an Arabic word means " take an initiative". It is considered as an open invitation for the students to take an initiative and participate in volunteer activities that lead to community development. The project is adopting a group of ethics which is applied during the implementation of all its activities. These ethics are such as belonging and citizenship, freedom to make choices, participation, and appreciation of the community assets.
