GCC Cigre has been established under auspices of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and in accordance with a recommendation of their Excellencies the GCC Ministers of Electricity & Water during their second meeting in Kuwait on 2nd Sha"ban, 1405 H (22nd. April 1985). The GCC General Secretariat, together with the Secretary General, of the International Council for Large Electric Systems "CIGRE" drafted the Committee''s basic law. GCC Cigre, a non-profitable organization, is an affiliate of the international Council for Large Electric System located in Paris – France. It is mainly concerned with the fields of generation and transmission of electric power.
Objectives:
GCC Cigre''s objectives concentrate on facilitating and encouraging the exchange of technical and technological information among its members. GCC Cirge directs particular attention to the following activities :
• Various fields of power generation
• Construction and operation of substations and their auxiliaries
• Construction, insulation and operation of HV transmission lines
• Introduction, operation and protection of the power interconnection system:
