Activities & Programs:
1. Annual Seminars
Since 1989, the Committee started to organize annual seminars dedicated to the discussion of a vital subject in the field of electric power. The main aim of such seminars is to tackle the difficulties and obstacles facing practitioners and researches in this field, and to suggest solutions and reach recommendations that contribute to the development of Electricity Sector in the Gulf Region.
2. Annual Exhibitions
The Committee decided, since 1995 to organize annual Electric Equipment Exhibition on the periphery of its annual seminars. The objective is to encourage gulf electric equipment manufacturers display their product to the concerned people so that they have the opportunity of comparison between the different products and allow the follow up of the latest technological developments in this field.
3. Annual Prize
GCC Cigre offers an annual prize for the best-applied research paper on a subject that is closely related to the GCC electric systems.
4. Information & Publications
The Committee publishes an annual magazine called Al-Khaleej Electricity, in addition to a news bulletin twice a year covering information about the conferences, seminars and related activities of interest to the electricity sector.
5. Studies & Researches
Recently four study committees have been formulated with the aim of organizing and conducting studies that upgrade the technology and enhance knowledge. The main activity of such study committees is to determine the technical issues and topics which require joint cooperation between all those involved in the electricity sector in the GCC Countries, with the objective to enhance knowledge in the related fields and find out the economically and technically feasible solutions to the related problems.
Relations with International "Cigre"
"GCC Cigre" is a member of International Cigre''s Administrative Board. It makes a special efforts to help its members acquire the membership of Cigre International Study Committees and to attend the international conferences on electric power systems.
GCC Cigre believes that the involvement of the regional institutions engineers and researchers in the efforts to find optimal solutions for the local problems, and obstacles encountered in the electricity sector, and linking them to the similar international institutions, shall positively contribute towards enabling them to overcome such obstacles and to enhance the performance of the regional institutions.
Due to the efforts paid in this respect GCC Cigre has been represented in several international Study Committees as follows:
1. One member in SC 15 "Insulating materials"
2. Two members in SC 25 "power systems communications & control"
3. One member in SC 11 "Rotating equipment"
4. One member in SC 34 "Power system protection"
5. Two members in SC 37 "Power system planning & development"
6. Two members in SC 38 "Power system analysis and techniques"
