Sisterhood Is Global Institute

It is an international organization founded in 1984 with the aim of promoting Women’s rights locally, nationally, regionally and internationally. The Institute; which has members in various countries, is connected worldwide with more than thirteen hundred individuals and institutional members and implements projects in many areas.

The Institute is a Non Governmental Organization enjoying a consultative
status within the Social and Economic Council of the United Nations.
It is also a non-profit organization enjoying popular support and tax
exemption.

The Institute was founded following the publication of a book entitled “International Solidarity Between Women, a History of the Women’s Movement" in which participated women’s organizations from seventy different countries from all over the world.The book included information,statistics and indicators on the status of the women and the history of their struggle to achieve her rights. Following this book''s publication, authors found a pressing need for the establishment of a Women permanent international organization which would work on consolidating and protecting Human Rights for Women as well as providing support and solidarity in order to enable women to exercise these rights.
