Results of three studies, presented in a February 2006 network workshop, and two studies, presented in a June 2006workshop, provided essential information. From the studies, the workshop participants learned that gaps and inconsistencies in Egyptian law fostered a dual system whereby children withoutdisability were enrolled in public primary school but children with disability- the2% actually enrolled- were sent to
special education schools and vocational training. To address this inequity, thenetwork chose to advocate for inclusion of children with disability in Egyptian public primary schools.
Network members decided to recommend amendments to the Egyptian Child Law of 1996 so it would clearly state children with disabilities have the same right to free
public education as children without disability.
