The main activities and projects of the PPM are divided as follow:
Youth Capacity Building and Empowerment
PPM is a capacity building organization that uses participatory training as its main methodology for promoting communication and dialogue between individuals, groups and communities. All its initiatives and programs are human rights based approaches. PPM implements a unique capacity building technique designed to train individuals not only on conflict resolution, tolerance, negotiation and mediation skills, but also to provide them with the resources and skills in order to subsequently transfer their knowledge and share these acquired capacities with others.
Juvenile Justice
It is worth mentioning that PPM was recently selected along with 15 other NGOs as a grant beneficiary within the framework of AFKAR project with the European Commission. PPM was granted 49000 euros In order to implement the “Juvenile Justice Administration” Project.
The aim of the action is to render the issued Law No 422 related to the protection of juveniles in conflict with the law or at risk, on 6/6/2002, more compliant with the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and to raise the age of criminal responsibility from seven years of age to twelve years of age. In addition it aims at capacity building of juvenile social representatives in relation to conflict resolution, mediation skills and introduction to restorative justice and alternative measures to juveniles incarceration. Furthermore it aims at introducing relevant stakeholders to the concepts and international experiences pertaining to Restorative Justice, Alternative Measures to Imprisonment, Juvenile Victim Offender Mediation Processes. It will also provide Capacity Building of NGOs aiming at empowering ex- juveniles in Conflict with the Law as well as their reintegration in society, and ultimately reduce recidivism. The proposed project represents s complementary project, since it will effectively contribute to prevention of delinquency and conflict with the law.
Small Arms and Light Weapons Prevention
As member of the MENA small arms and light weapons network the PPM implements various programs relating to prevention, including surveillance, advocacy and awareness raising and networking at the national level. As partner of the IANSA and in collaboration with Biting the bullet project, International Alert, Saferworld and the University of Bradford, PPM recently organized in Beirut the regional “ Small Arms Research Training Workshop”, 29-31 January 2005. PPM is also following up the implementation of the UN Program of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons.
