The Promotion of Education in Pakistan (PEP) Foundation, Inc. was founded by two world famous Alzheimer disease scientists, Drs. Khalid Iqbal and Inge Grundke-Iqbal in December 1994. The other two Trustees, Dr. Suhail Muzaffar and Faiza Vardag-Muzaffar are leaders of the Pakistani-American community on Staten Island, and are involved in many social, cultural and welfare activities in the greater New York area. In 1995 for his outstanding research on the pathogenesis of Alzheimer''s disease, Dr. Khalid Iqbal shared with two other scientists a $100,000 personal prize, the Potamkin Prize for Alzheimer''s Disease Research. Dr. Iqbal donated his entire prize to the PEP Foundation. Both Drs. Iqbal and Grundke-Iqbal have also been donating all their book royalties, consultant fees and lecture fees to the Foundation. Many Pakistanis, Americans and others are also increasingly making donations to the PEP Foundation.
