In order for ICASO to fulfill its mission to support and mobilize community organizations within an evolving epidemic and a scaled up response to HIV and AIDS, we have developed an extensive and integrated set of programs.
These programs aim to support community organizations, representatives, advocates, and activists, particularly the most vulnerable and marginalized, to have a direct voice and leading role in setting HIV and AIDS agendas and decision-making at the national, regional and global levels. This work is happening within a context of an increasing number and diversity of community sector organizations addressing HIV and AIDS. In response, ICASO has been increasing its support to these organizations and advocates to more effectively mobilize, network, and coordinate their advocacy.
ICASO does this by working in partnership with many other organizations, in particular working through its Regional Secretariats on five continents. Our own direct advocacy is based on our programs that gather evidence from communities at the grassroots. This advocacy is also based on our own commitments to the principle of Greater Involvement of People Living with and Affected by HIV/AIDS (GIPA) and to challenging policies, programming and practices that undermine best practice in public health and/or that violate human rights.
