The Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries was established by the seventh Arab Summit Conference held in Rabat in 1974.
The Summit approved the chart of the Fund together with a declared capital of twenty five million U.S Dollars. The Arab League council elected the first board of directors of the Fund in April 1975.
Believing in sharing a common fate with Africa, the Arabs have established the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance with the aim of consolidating Afro-Arab relations, and provide the developing African countries with some of their needs for human resources, economic and technical development.
Throughout a quarter of a century, the policies of the Arab Fund led to tangible achievements in the development of human resources in Africa. Presently, the Fund aims at further enhancing its role to include new fields of interest to African countries.
