Mission:
Enhance the status, quality and practice of the visual, performing, and literary arts through education, production, dissemination, and conservation.
Objectives:
Instill appreciation for the arts from infancy through adulthood.
Improve teaching of arts from earliest grades through university.
Enhance “professionalism” of art in the UAE.
Assist in making the UAE a world class center for contemporary and traditional arts and culture.
2009 Programmes:
Ph.D. Fellowships Programme
The project supports Emiratis seeking financial aid to pursue Ph.D. studies in Art, Literature, and Culture. National aspirations for regional leadership in cultural fields require a cadre of highly competent Emiratis to contribute to the country's ambitious artistic agenda. In a competitive process, the programme will identify an Emirati motivated to research, teach, advise, administer, and inspire others in art appreciation, cultural innovation, and symbols of national identity. Ph.D. studies will provide them with the training and credentials to play important roles in national cultural development. Eligible fields include art history, literary criticism, folklore, cultural administration and preservation.

artists across the nation, through the provision of financial grants in the visual arts, theatre, music and literature. Emirates Foundation funding supports the project work of the various artists involved.
2008 Highlights:
Foreign Residencies for Emirati Artists, Writers, and Musicians
The Arts & Culture Programme of the Emirates Foundation announces a grants programme that seeks to enable talented Emirati citizens to enhance their skills, knowledge, and experience through residency in a vibrant international artistic and cultural community. Eligible fields are visual arts, music, literature, film and photography, sculpture and dance. Residencies can extend for up to six months.

Ebdaei
Organized jointly by Emirates Foundation and Zayed University, the 2007 competition promoted fine arts and graphic design in the UAE. Celebrating the country’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed, university students in the arts competed through displays of work in order to increase young artists’ contributions to the UAE community. The funding was used to host the exhibition.
Reflective Group of Arts
The “Reflective Group of Arts” is based in Ras Al-Khaimah. Its aim is to create professional Emirati cinematography which expresses and reflects the dreams, aspirations, burdens and education of the Emirati individual. The Emirates Foundation supported this unique initiative through an Arts and Culture grant in the summer of 2006 which upgraded the camera equipment needed for the group.
International Prize for Arabic Fiction
In association with the Booker Prize Foundation, this prize aims to reward excellence in contemporary Arabic creative writing and to encourage wider readership of quality Arabic literature in the region and internationally.
The Emirates Foundation sponsors the Prize, which is administered and judged through an independent Board of Trustees. The prize is also designed to foster a growth in the translation and publication of Arabic language literature into other major languages.
