Regional Development: Reality or Myth. Selected Papers from ERF’s Ninth Annual Conference
 

ERF’s Ninth Annual Conference took place over three days in October 2002, in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, under the auspices of the American University in Sharjah, and His Highness Dr. Sultan Bin Mohamed Al Qassimi, ruler of Sharjah. It covered, among a host of other activities, the presentation and discussion of thirty one research papers, around four main themes: trade, labor, finance and industry/environment. In this new volume, however, eight papers only from the conference out of the thirty-one presented have been selected and featured after being revised by authors, who incorporated discussant and floor comments into their work. Thus, this is not a standard "proceedings" volume, but rather a more selective approach that reflects the impact of peer review and comment on the quality of the papers.
