Mission:

Support the development of an education system that utilizes resources to implement best global teaching, administrative & technological practices to graduate independent, qualified Emirati citizens.

Objectives:
Collaborate with efforts to improve the conditions of service for Emirati teachers.
Assist UAE kindergartens nationwide in acquiring best early learning materials.
Encourage applied social and educational research to assess and improve the education outcomes in the UAE.
Get parents and communities more involved in schools.
2009 Programmes:
Emirates Read Grant Competition
The Emirates Foundation invites anyone with a bright idea that will increase interest in reading among Emiratis to apply for the Emirates Read Grant Competition.
The Foundation is particularly keen to encourage interested individuals to come forward with local ideas and will give preference to initiatives originated by UAE Nationals or promoting Arabic Language. Possible projects could include seminars for parents on how to read to their children, school book-clubs, and training teachers in the promotion of literacy skills. Larger-scale initiatives might range from "incentive-to-read" programmes to the production of attractive books and book bags with free books.

This scheme is supported by the General Holdings Corporation, the UAE’s largest industrial conglomerate.


Emirates Foundation School Awards
The Emirates Foundation invites all educators from cycle 3 public schools to submit proposals to expand an existing project or to launch and run a new programme to enhance the learning of the nation’s youth. The Foundation will award grants to secondary schools and agencies for development in the following areas: Public School Library development, Curriculum innovation and Parent Involvement in School Affairs. All awards will be chosen through in a competitive process.


Call for Applied Education Research Proposals
The Emirates Foundation (EF) announces a call for submission of original research proposals in the area of applied education. The programme reflects the Foundation’s commitment to support and sustain educational advancement in the United Arab Emirates.

The Emirates Foundation is providing research grant awards of up to AED 90,000 per application.

Proposals from university researchers need to undergo internal review and evaluation by the University/Institutional research division as per the attached evaluation form for referees. The research division (or equivalent authority) submits the completed application with the completed evaluation form to the Foundation. All grant proposals must be led by or include a significant participation of UAE nationals.


Ph.D. Fellowships Programme
The project supports Emiratis seeking financial aid to pursue PhD studies in Education. The UAE has identified basic education as a top priority for the country's future. One of the Emirates Foundation's core objectives is to help build a cadre of UAE advanced students and accomplished professionals to contribute to knowledge, understanding and management of the country's educational challenges. In a competitive process, the programme seeks to fund UAE citizens aiming for high level careers in universities, research institutes, and public agencies to guide the nation's future educational development.


Scholarships in Italy
With cooperation from the Italian Embassy, this programme supports Emiratis in pursue Masters degrees at leading Italian universities. The programme is designed to advance the careers of outstanding Emiratis in fields that are increasingly important for national development, but where sufficient locally trained specialists are lacking. The scholarship covers tuition, monthly allowances, annual travel and related expenses.


BUiD Scholarships
This programme offers scholarships to deserving working Emirati students who wish to pursue their education at BUiD (The British University in Dubai). The Emirates Foundation’s funding covers partial tuition fees for the Masters programmes which include: MSc Information Technology, MSc Project Management, Master of Education, MSc Sustainable Design of Built Environment, MSc Finance and Banking, MSc IT Management and MSc in Human Resource Management.

Proposals need to be accompanied by a letter of support from the researcher's employer or a relevant institution.

 

2006-2007 Highlights:
PhD Support

The Emirates Foundation has offered support for talented young Emiratis who have demonstrated academic excellence in a scientific field to obtain their PhDs, then return to serve the nation. The funding complements existing funding from other sources, in order for the candidates to complete their PhD work.


Kumon Math Programme
The Emirates Foundation, in partnership with Japan Oil Development Company, has established an Educational Fund in order to promote the reputed ‘Kumon’ educational technique for elementary mathematics in Abu Dhabi. The fund provides financial support to selected children participating in the Kumon learning programme. 


Al Ain Learning Community Festival 2007
The Emirates Foundation was a major sponsor of the Al Ain Learning Community Festival in 2007. Deputy CEO Omar Ghobash took part in the main discussion panel on globalization under the theme ‘Working with the World’.


Institute of Applied Technology (IAT)
In association with the Al Fahim Group, the Foundation has funded the EDUTECH IAT grant. Through this the Institute has been supplied with training equipment for skill building through the Young Emiratis Career-based Technical Education (CTE) in English, at both secondary and tertiary levels.
