Call for projects: A New Beginning
Bibliotheca Alexandrina , At 22/04/2010

A New Beginning: From Discourse to Action– Moving Forward together

Call for projects:

The New Beginning Conference (NB) is dedicating a space for showcasing different projects with powerful objectives that connects the Muslim world with the USA. The call is aimed at projects that are implemented in Muslim majority countries but have direct contribution from the US either by partnerships, funds or implementation.

Deadline for projects submission: April 30, 2010.

A New Beginning

Following President Obama’s speech addressed to the Muslims of the World in Cairo on June 4, 2009, new voices began to encourage the cultivation of a positive relationship between Muslims around the world on one hand, and the United States on the other. President Obama, in his speech, introduced the possibility of “change” or what he termed “a new beginning”. However, he noted that change may be easier in the form of policies, whereas intellectual and cultural changes can only occur through communication and genuine dialogue, between Muslims and the US, in order to restore a cordial relationship.

Based on this idea, the New Beginning initiative was brought up with the purpose of developing a feasible and sound strategy for the future (3-5 years) in order to sustain a new beginning.

About us

NB is an initiative developed by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in cooperation with a number of international academic institutions and libraries (Partner Organizations) aiming to correct images, combat stereotypes and build bridges.

The NB Initiative promotes the exchange of compelling information between the Muslim World and the United States, going beyond stereotypes and headline news to provide people with new insight into the cultures and people that comprise our global community. The aim is to open a window into unfamiliar lives, experiences and perspectives from around the Muslim world.

This call seeks projects that are in the implementation phase which meet the required criteria (see below).

A collective publication of all the selected project will be distributed amongst the participants of the conference as well as being posted online on the New Beginning website.

To apply for the NB Project showcase you have to follow the guidelines and procedures below. Incomplete proposals will not be processed.

English is the working language. All written materials must be in presented in English.

Kindly note that NOT all submissions will be showcased.
